Developing our profession

We want DfE to be the leader for product management in government.

Our aim is to enable product managers to:

• learn skills and develop their careers, and support them as they work
• deliver products and services that solve the right problems and add value for users
• share their successes, their failures and their learnings in a safe space

How we'll achieve this

We've already introduced values and principles for the profession. We'll continue to learn from good practice and mature how the department thinks about product management.

Debbie Blanchard, Head of Profession for Product Management, has 4 key priorities.

1. Conduct capability assessments with all product managers to inform content of community meetups and formal learning opportunities.
2. Create a DfE product manual to provide information for product managers, including good practice.
3. Standardise the profession by bringing consistency to roles and job descriptions.
4. Work with cross-government colleagues on the capability framework and learning pathways for product managers.
